COLUMBIA, Mo.- Missouri Head Swimming and Diving Coach BRIAN HOFFER has added yet another all-American to his staff. GREG TRIEFENBACH, a five-time all-American diver for Louisiana State University, has been hired as the new diving coach at Missouri. Triefenbach replaces Patrick McCord who departed in July. Hoffer hired 10-time all-American ANNE KAMPFE in June as his number one assistant.
Triefenbach comes to Mizzou via Virginia Tech University where he has coached the last three seasons. At Virginia Tech, he coached three Atlantic 10 champions, two of whom set A-10 records. Triefenbach led 28 divers to top eight conference finishes. He also had the first male diver in school history to qualify for the NCAA Zone Diving Meet.
Before Virginia Tech, Triefenbach served as an assistant diving coach at his alma mater, LSU. Besides being a five-time all-American, he was a two-time Southeast Conference champion and placed fifth at the Olympic Festival in St. Louis in 1995. As a junior at LSU, Triefenbach placed third on the 10-meter board at the NCAA Championships.
"We are excited to have Greg as part of our coaching staff at Missouri," said Hoffer. "Greg's collegiate coaching experience as well as his knowledge of diving really should help take our divers to the next level which is the NCAA Championships."
Triefenbach is no stranger to Missouri. A native of Bridgeton, Mo. located just outside St. Louis, he has been involved with the Clayton Diving Alliance doing clinics for two years, something that he will continue as the diving coach at Missouri.
At Missouri, Triefenbach inherits a group of divers that made great progress last season. Senior KRISTY WANNER reached the finals on the one and three-meter diving boards last season at the Big 12 Conference Championships and qualified for the NCAA Zone Meet. Junior ERIN WILKE also showed great improvement last season for the MU women and was a Big 12 finalist as well as an NCAA Zone qualifier on the tower.
The young duo of sophomores JASON OTTE and JAMES SWEENEY really came on strong at the end of year for the men's team last season. Sweeney was a NCAA Zone qualifier on the platform and was a Big 12 finalist.
