Tingler Named Freshman All-American

June 14, 2000

COLUMBIA, MO -- Outfielder Jayce Tingler (Smithville, Mo.) has been named to Collegiate Baseball's annual Freshman All-America team.

Tingler was an honorable mention selection after a debut season at Mizzou that saw him hit .342 and post an on-base percentage of .485 - highest ever for a freshman at the University of Missouri.

He led the team with 14 stolen bases and 44 walks. MU's leadoff hitter for much of the season, Tingler scored 50 runs and drove in 31. In the outfield he made just one error in 78 chances. Tingler was the Big 12 Player of the Week once during the 2000 campaign and was also an honorable mention all-Big 12 performer on the coaches all-conference team.

With junior Nick Wilfong having signed a professional contract with the San Francisco Giants, it's expected that Tingler will move from leftfield to centerfield for the 2001 season.

MU sophomore shortstop Ryan Stegall was named an honorable mention member of Collegiate Baseball's Freshman All-America team last season and this year ascended to third-team all-America status by both the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and the American Baseball Coaches Association.
