Tigers to Host Missouri Round Robin

The Tigers open the home portion of their 2000 schedule with the Mizzou Round Robin. Missouri is scheduled to play Saturday at 2 and 4 p.m. and Sunday at noon. They will then enter bracket play and either play in the consolation game at 2 p.m. or the championship game at 4 p.m. In case of inclement weather the tournament will be moved from University Field to the Devine Pavillion. Missouri games will stay at the same time both days. If the games are moved indoors the games originally scheduled for 10 a.m. and noon on Saturday will be played at 6 and 8 p.m.

Missouri opens the tournament led by a junior, a freshman and two seniors at the plate and a freshman on the mound. Junior Karen Williams leads all batters with a .455 average. She started Missouri's first four games before getting injured. In 11 at bats she had five hits, three walks, scored two runs and stole two bases. Freshman Sara Vassmer hit .429 in her first six collegiate games. She tallied six hits, including two sacrifices, and one run scored in 14 at bats. Senior Christy Skouby hit .400 in her first six games. In 15 at bats she has six hits, including a sacrifice, a double and a home run, three walks, two RBI and two runs scored. She also stole one base. Senior Stacy Gemeinhardt is batting .389 with seven hits, four walks, five runs scored, four RBI, three triples and one sacrifice fly in 18 at bats.

Freshman Ingrid Werner was very successful in her first outing as a Tiger. She retired the first 17 batters she faced before giving up her first hit in the top of the sixth inning in Missouri's 2-0 victory over Western Illinois. Werner finished the weekend with a 0.35 ERA and a 1-2 record. In 20 innings she gave up only 10 hits and one earned run. She tallied 14 strikeouts.

The Low Down on the Opposition

Missouri holds a 33-1 all-time record against UMKC. The Kangaroos will be opening their season at the Mizzou Round Robin. The two teams last faced off in the fall, with Missouri winning both games. The only time Missouri lost to UMKC was in 1997.

The Tigers faced both Western Illinois and Northern Iowa in the Metrodome Classic. Missouri shut out Western Illinois and split games with Northern Iowa.

Missouri has a 69-10 advantage over this year's Mizzou Round Robin participants all-time.
