COLUMBIA, MO., - The University of Missouri men's and women's swimming and diving teams will be showing some team spirit on Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 18-19). Both teams will be volunteering at the start and finish lines of the MS 150 Bike ride, a benefit for Multiple Sclerosis sponsored by the Gateway Area Chapter of the National MS Society.
The MS 150 Bike ride is a two-day bike tour through the rural back roads of Missouri between Troy and Mexico. A second route runs simultaneously between Columbia and Mexico. The riders must ride 100 miles in one single ride with the option being either Saturday or Sunday.
MS 150 cyclists collect pledges to raise money for medical research and to provide services to 4,200 people living with multiple sclerosis in the Gateway Area Chapter. Nationwide, 350,000 people have MS and 200 new cases are diagnosed each week.
Head coach Brian Hoffer and assistant coach Will Cobb are participating in the event as cyclists. The other two members of their team are Jane Russell, a MU freshman academic coordinator and Hoffer's fiance Pam Price.
"This is a great opportunity for the University of Missouri swimming and diving program," said Hoffer. "The team is looking forward to volunteering as well at the start/finish line. It is a great cause and something that all of us believe in supporting."
The teams are made up or four or more people from various companies, circles of friends and families of MS sufferers, and co-workers and organizations of all kinds. For more information on the MS 150 Bike Ride you can call 1-800-FLIGHT-MS or 314/781-9020.
