COLUMBIA, Mo.- The Missouri Tigers (11-8) rallied for three runs in the seventh and eighth innings to edge the Saint Louis Billikens (8-8) by a score of 7-6 on Wednesday night at Simmons Field. Missouri travels to Baylor this weekend for a three game series with the 19th ranked Bears.
Saint Louis led 2-0 after three innings when Missouri exploded for four runs in the fourth off of Billikens starting pitcher Wes Jaillet. The Tigers manufactured their first run on a ground out by Luke Cassis. Ryan Pickett, who had doubled, scored on a RBI single by Mike Ketelsen to tie the game 2-2. Freshman shortstop Ryan Stegall (2-for-2, 3 RBI) then exacted some revenge on Jaillet, who had hit Stegall with pitches in his two previous plate appearances. Stegall connected for his ninth home run of the year to give the Tigers a 4-2 advantage.
Saint Louis fought back with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings off of Mizzou starter Logan Dale. With runners on the second and third in the sixth inning, Tigers reliever Ralph McCasland uncorked a wild pitch sending the tying run across the plate to even the score at 4-4. The Billikens then took the lead in the seventh inning when Nick Steiner (4-for-5, 2 RBI) homered off of McCasland with a man on base to give Saint Louis a 6-4 lead.
The Tigers came right back in the bottom of the seventh. After a single by Stegall and a double by Jake Epstein, freshman Mick Weiss delivered a two run single off of former Francis Howell North High School teammate Jonathan Estes to tie the game at 6-6.
After reliever Mitch Kiler (2-0) pitched the Tigers out of a jam in the eighth inning, the Missouri bats responded with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth. After Cassis reached on an error, freshman W.T. Hoover smacked a double into the left field gap scoring Cassis to give the Tigers the lead. Ryan Jamison came out of the bullpen for the Tigers to earn his fourth save of the season.
