COLUMBIA, Mo.- It was a long day to say the least for the Lady Miners of Missouri-Rolla. After their bus broke down outside of Jefferson City causing the tipoff to be delayed 30 minutes, the Missouri Tigers (6-3) added to the misery with a 90-27 wipe out of UMR (6-4) at the Hearnes Center Monday night. The Tigers led 47-11 at halftime and held Rolla to just .158 percent shooting.
Missouri jumped out to a 27-2 lead thanks to 15 points in less than eight minutes by junior forward Amy Monsees. The Tigers forced 17 first half turnovers and shot a sizzling .567 percent from the floor.
Five players scored in double figures for Mizzou led by Monsees 18 points and 7 rebounds. Julie Helm made it 24 straight games in double digits with 15 points and Kesha Bonds recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Bonds now has 831 rebounds for her career tying her for third place on the all-time rebounds list with Annette Schwander.
Ten of Missouri's 12 players scored on the night including career-highs for Tracy Franklin (10 points) and Vo-Laria Brooks (6 points). Freshman Janel McNeal led the Lady Miners with 11 points.
Missouri is off until Dec. 29 when former MU assistant coach Leslie Crane brings her Westerwinds of Western Illinois into Columbia. It will be the last non-conference tune-up for Missouri before Jan. 3 when the Tigers travel to nationally ranked Nebraska.
