COLUMBIA, Mo.- The University of Missouri will hold ceremonies for the new baseball stadium at 6:45 p.m. on Friday night prior to the Missouri baseball game vs. Bradley. Expected to be on hand are University of Missouri Director of Athletics Michael Alden, Senior Associate Director of Athletics and former Missouri baseball coach Gene McArtor, Vice Chancellor for Development and Alumni Relations Hal Jeffcoat and Ralph and Debbie Taylor, who pledged $1 million to the project last fall.
Pending approval of the Board of Curators in May, construction of the new baseball facility is scheduled to begin on June 6 following the Missouri State High School baseball tournament.
Baseball Receives Another Generous Pledge
Family of former Mizzou pitcher pledges $200,000 towards the new stadium
COLUMBIA, Mo.- Mr. And Mrs. Michael Haverty of Kansas City, Mo., have pledged $200,000 to the Missouri baseball program. The gift will be used to enhance the overall appearance of the new baseball stadium through additional brick and ironwork.
Haverty's son Mike is a former pitcher for Coach Tim Jamieson at the University of Missouri. Haverty pitched at Missouri from 1993-97. Haverty is seventh on Missouri's all-time pitching appearance list and was an honorable mention all-Big Eight selection in 1996 after leading the conference in ERA.
"On behalf of the Missouri baseball program, I would like to extend our appreciation to the Haverty family for their generous donation to the baseball stadium," said Jamieson. "I know Mike is interested in helping build a first-class facility with attention to detail. I know this donation will allow us to enhance the aesthetics and overall feel from a players' and fans' perspective.
"This gift says a lot for the relationships built between the athletic programs and student athletes at the University of Missouri," said Director of Athletics Michael Alden. "The University of Missouri extends its deepest appreciation to the Haverty family for this generous pledge."
