
Baseball Beats Texas in 11 innings

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.-Missouri made the most of its first back-to-back extra inning games in postseason play (since 1952) as the Tigers eliminated Texas 5-4 in 11 innings during Game 10 of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference baseball tournament Friday at Southwestern Bell Bricktown Ballpark.
The Tigers (37-18) continue to edge toward a possible NCAA Region tourney berth for the first time since 1996 after they also conquered Texas Tech 8-7 in 12 innings during the postseason meet Thursday.
DH-first baseman Mike Rallo, batting .199 coming into the game, belted a solo homer in the fourth inning and singled in the winning run in the top of the 11th of Game 10 as the Longhorns (35-24) finished ther stint in the Big 12 tourney.
Longhorns' starter D.J. Jones lasted 10 innings and 173 pitches before being spelled by Phillip Seibel in the 11th after an error by Longhorns' shortstop Jason Moore. Jones (9-7) was tagged with the loss after Seibel surrendered a walk and Rallo's RBI single.
Centerfielder Mike Ketelsen led the Tigers' 12-hit attack with three hits while rightfielder J.R. Warner plated two runs with a double and a single. Relief man Ryan Jamison (3-1) quelled a bases-loaded rally by the Longhorns in the bottom of the ninth and struck out five in 3 1/3 innings to gain the victory.
Texas catcher Sam Anderson was 2-for-5 with three RBI-all on a base-clearing double in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game at 4-4.
The Tigers advance to a 1 p.m. (CDT) battle against tournament unbeaten team Baylor in Game 12 of the meet after Nebraska (also 2-0 in the meet) faces Texas A&M, two-time defending Big 12 champion, at 10 a.m. There could be as few as two games or as many as four contests Saturday as the outcomes of the first two games determine the day's proceedings. The Phillips 66 Big 12 tournament title game is set for 1 p.m. (CDT) Sunday in a national FOX Sports Net telecast.
