Tigers Take On Western Illinois

After taking a week off from competition, both of the Missouri swimming and diving team head to Macomb, Ill. on Friday, November 19 to take on Western Illinois. Mizzou will take to the water at 6:00p.m. This will mark the Tigers final dual meet of the semester.

Tigers Look To Stay Undefeated Against Land of Lincoln

The Missouri women's team will be taking on its third team from the state of Illinois on Friday. The Tigers are 2-0 against teams from Illinois headed into the meet. MU defeated the Fighting Illini two weeks ago, 96-90 at the Illinois Dual Extravangza. Later in the weekend Mizzou defeated its second team from Illinois as the black and gold swimmers and divers beat Southern Illinois 152-75.

Tour de Champaign

At the 1999 Illinois Dual Extravangza two weeks ago in Champaign, Ill., the MU women competed in five different dual meets over one weekend (Nov 5-7), coming out of the weekend 3-2. The Tigers defeated No. 24 Illinois 96-90 on Friday night. Saturday saw Mizzou go head to head with Penn State (65-82) and Kansas (75.5-93.5) losing to both before bouncing back to defeat North Texas, 163-55 and Southern Illinois, 152-75 on Sunday.

"The women had great races, despite the two losses," head coach Brian Hoffer said. "Penn State is a lagitament top-three Big Ten team, we showed we are ready to step up and race. Despite the loss to Kansas, it was the best we have matched up with then in my tenure at Missouri. The win over Illinois was fantastic and the two wins over UNT and SIU on Sunday was great. It was a long weekend of competition and the women raced hard the entire weekend."

Rikki's Reign

Senior Rikki Janes heads into the Western Illinois dual undefeated in backstroke events. In her six previous backstroke races, Janes has won them all, including a come from behind victory in the 200 backstroke against Penn State. To kick the season off, Janes established a new meet record at the Black and Gold Intrasquad meet. Mizzou's medley relays, in which Janes leads off, have also claimed three wins during the season. Against WIU, the backstroke ace will be looking for her seventh individual victory.

Young Tigers Making Big Waves

The freshman women were expected to make some big waves on the squad this year, but no one could expect they would be stepping up to the blocks and making this big of an impact, this fast. In the past seven dual meets the Tigers have competed in to this point, the freshman can lay claim to 14 individual victories.

Katy Chandler has claimed the 200 free title against Iowa State, Illinois and at the Black and Gold meet as well as the 500 free against the Cyclones.

Ellen Cross has made a name for herself in the sprinting ranks of the Tigers. She has won the 50 free in MU's dual meets against Iowa State, Illinois and Kansas while also winning the 100 free against the Cyclones.

Leslie Hoh stated the season off by qualifying for Olympic Trials followed up by a 100 breast title at the Black and Gold meet in a new meet record time. She has also won the 200 breast and 200 IM at Iowa State before claiming wins in the 200 IM versus Illinois and the 200 breast versus the Nittany Lions.

Sarah Stowe has stepped up in the distance events to carry to load for Mizzou. She won the 1,000 free and 200 back in the double dual against North Texas and Southern Illinois to claim her first two Tiger wins.

The other freshman women, Tiffany Bohon, Chrissy Frieh, Kendra Jacobs, Buffy Milner and diver Erika Gash have not won an event, but they have still made names for themselves. These five women have provided valuable points to the Tigers wins and stepped up in crunch time.
