COLUMBIA, Mo. - After a 7-1victory over Southwest Missouri State on Friday, and a 2-0 shutdown today, the Missouri Women's Soccer team has proved they are the best team in the state. However, it's not just the final score that proves their achievement. In a repeated performance of victory at home, the Tigers did not allow Saint Louis to have a single shot in the second half. Not to mention, the Tigers out shot the Billikens 6 to 1. Missouri's defense held SLU's forward standout Tricia Underberg to two shots, and their season's leading scorer, Lori Wiedemeir didn't even take one.
Defense is the best offense, and according to Coach Blitz it's what is winning games for them. Helping to win though is the dangerous forward line that has scored 16 goals in three games. Erin Grimsley had herself one today off a Nikki Thole combo pass. Kate Dwyer also rocketed a 25 yard shot past Billiken goalkeeper Jenni Tooth. Tooth had a tough game, not only did she face 32 shots, 12 were on goal. She made ten saves.
Missouri looks to keep their home game streak going as they play host to the NIKE and Ellis Copy Center Tiger Invitational. Kentucky, Tulsa and Cal Poly come to Columbia. Missouri plays Kentucky at 4:00 p.m., while Tulsa and Cal Poly compete before them at 2:00 p.m.. Sunday the Tigers face Cal Poly, at 12:00, and following their game Tulsa and Kentucky kickoff at 2:00 p.m..
Goals: MU Erin Grimsley (54:20) Nikki Thole, MU Kate Dwyer (68:33) Krisitin Boeker
