Columbia, Mo. - The University of Missouri women's golf team finished in third place at the Chip-N-Club Invitational, held Sept. 14-15 at Firethorn Golf Club in Lincoln, Neb. The Tigers' three-round team score of 893 left them nine strokes behind champion New Mexico State, which claimed the title with an 884 total. Host Nebraska was second, at 889.
Missouri, which won the same tournament in 1997, tied for the best team score in the final round (293), but it wasn't enough, as the Tigers had too much ground to cover after falling 18 strokes behind the first round pace set by the Aggies.
The Tigers were led individually by senior STEFANIE MITCHELL (73-70-73=216), who finished 2nd overall, just four strokes behind champion Sasha Medina of New Mexico State. Mitchell trailed by just one stroke entering the final round, but Medina's final-round 70 (1-under par) was enough to hold on for medallist honors.
Sophomore AMELIA MOSES (77-80-70=227) finished in a tie for 11th place with her 227 total. The Coronationville, South Africa native tied for best round of the day with her final-round 70, but a second-round 80 kept her from a second-straight top-ten finish.
Sophomore transfer JAMIE TUCKER (74-75-80=229) notched her second-consecutive top-20 finish for the Tigers, as she finished in a tie for 15th place, just two strokes back of Moses. Right with Tucker was freshman teammate NISHA SADEKAR (80-74-75=229), who played in her first collegiate tournament. Junior TOBI PROBST (79-78-75=232) was three strokes back, and finished in a tie for 25th place.
Head Coach TOM LOYD's squad will have almost three weeks off to prepare for their next tournament, the Big 12 Fall Preview, which will be held Oct. 3-4 in Austin, Texas. The Tigers finished 3rd at last year's Preview that was held in Columbia, Mo.
