Norman, Okla. - In its final tune-up for the Big 12 Championships, the University of Missouri women's golf team finished third at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic, which wrapped up today at Jimmie Austin Golf Course, in Norman, Okla.
Missouri shot 306 in today's final round, which was the best team score of the day. The Tigers finished just seven strokes behind champion Oklahoma, which won with a 923 total. Baylor was second, at 926, followed by Missouri, at 930. The Tigers made a late charge at the leaders, as MU gained 10 strokes on both in the final round.
Individually, four of five MU golfers placed in the field's top-20. Missouri was led by senior STEFANIE MITCHELL (79-75-79=233), who tied for 10th overall. She finished 12 strokes behind medalist Wendy Martin of Oklahoma, who won with a 219 total.
Sophomore JAMIE TUCKER (83-76-75=234) rebounded nicely from an opening-round 83, to end up tied for 14th overall. Her final-round 3-over par 75 was surpassed by only two other golfers on the day.
Just behind Tucker were AMELIA MOSES (82-78-75=235) and NISHA SADEKAR (78-80-77=235), who each tied for 18th with identical three-round scores of 235. Just three strokes back was junior TOBI PROBST (80-76-82=238), who tied for 30th individually with her 238 total.
The Classic was Missouri's final tournament prior to the upcoming Big 12 Championships, which are scheduled for April 19-21, in Boulder, Colo. Head Coach TOM LOYD's Tigers will look to improve on last year's 7th-place showing.
