Women's Golf Finishes 16th at NCAA Regional

May 8, 1999

Houston, Texas - The University of Missouri women's golf team finished 16th at the NCAA West Regional, which wrapped up today at Pine Forest Country Club, in Houston, Texas. The top 11 teams, and two individuals from non-advancing teams, moved on to the NCAA Championships, which are scheduled for May 19-20 at Tulsa Country Club, in Tulsa, Okla.

Making its second-straight NCAA Regional appearance (and just the second in school history), Missouri finished with a team total of 951 for three rounds, which left them 21 strokes off the 11th-place team, San Jose State, which was the last team to advance, with a total of 930. Southern California won the regional, with a three-round team score of 879.

Sophomore JAMIE TUCKER (78-77-75=230) led the way individually for Missouri, as she tied for 31st overall with her three-round total of 230. She finished just seven strokes out of advancing on to the NCAA Championships as an individual. The top two individuals from non-advancing teams were Angie Yoon of Nevada, who tied for 2nd (215), and Kathleen Takaishi of Oregon State, who tied for 12th (223).

The outstanding career of senior STEFANIE MITCHELL (77-78-79=234) came to a close, along with the Tigers' season. Mitchell couldn't find her 'A' game, but still finished in the top-50, as she tied for 48th overall. One of the most successful golfers in MU women's history, Mitchell will turn her sights to the professional ranks now that her collegiate days are done.

Just five strokes back of Mitchell was another sophomore, AMELIA MOSES (81-75-83=239), who tied for 66th place individually, with a three-round total of 239. Rounding out the Tiger lineup were freshman NISHA SADEKAR (85-82-82=249) and junior TOBI PROBST (84-83-83=250), who tied for 92nd and 94th place, respectively.

Head Coach TOM LOYD returns four of five starters next season, in what will be his second year at the helm for Mizzou.
