The University of Missouri women's golf team used a strong final round to make a solid showing at the annual Diet Coke-Roadrunner Invitational, which wrapped up today in Las Cruces, N.M. The Mizzou women fired a final round team score of 299 (the second-best round of the day), and finished 5th in a strong field which featured 18 schools. Mizzou knocked 20 strokes off its second-round total of 319. MU's first-round score was 308, which left them tied for 3rd.
Missouri was led individually by the sister combination of Amelia and Letitia Moses. Amelia (74-77-76=227) was MU's high finisher, as her total of 227 (11-over par) left her tied for 6th place overall. That represents the sophomore's best individual finish since tying for first in the season opener at Illinois State. It marked the fifth time she's finished in the top ten as a Tiger. Letitia (74-80-74=228) was just one stroke back of her younger sister, as the senior finished tied for 8th with a three-round total of 228 (12-over par). It was the best finish of the fall season for Letitia, whose previous high finish was a tie for 17th in the season opener at Illinois State.
Next up for the Tigers was senior Stefanie Mitchell (81-81-73=235), who tied for 29th overall with her total of 235 (19-over par). Mitchell struggled in her first two rounds, but recovered to fire a final-round 73, which was the fourth-best individual round of the day. The Cameron, Ill. native was just two strokes out of a top-20 finish. Mitchell led MU for the spring season with a team-best 75.71 stroke average, and turned in two top-five finishes in the fall.
Other Tiger competitors included junior Tobi Probst (79-83-76=238) and sophomore Jamie Tucker (81-81-78=240). Probst shot a final-round 76 to finish strong. It was her best round of the tournament, and it was seven strokes better than her second-round total of 83. Tucker was making her third appearance of the fall season, and tied for 40th with her three-round total of 240 (24-over par).
This tournament served as MU's final outing for the 1998 fall season. The Tigers have nearly four months off from competition before they return to action on Feb. 22-23 at the GTE MOmorial in College Station, Texas.
