Ann Arbor, Michigan - The Missouri Track and Field team continued their fine outdoor season today at the Phil Diamond Quadrangle at the University of Michigan as both the men's and women's teams finished third in the four team event. Missouri's men earned 167 points overall, seven points behind second place Penn State and behind men's champion Michigan who finished with 208 points. Ohio State finished fourth with 122. The Missouri women scored 152.5 points, matching their score from last week's Missouri Invitational, behind second place Penn State (168) and champion Michigan (201.5). Ohio State also finished fourth on the women's side with 150 points.
Five Missouri athletes and one relay team were individual champions during the one-day competition, with three of those champions setting season best marks. The men's throwing events belonged to MU, as the Tigers won three of the four events. Darrell Meinke won his fourth discus competition of the season with a 183-9 throw, nearly 20 feet better than his previous season best and the first NCAA provisional qualifying distance of his Tiger career. Micah Shanks championed the shot put with a put of 54-3 3/4, also passing his previous season best, and All-American Darin File took first place in the javelin with a 225-11 throw, File's fourth provisional qualifying mark of the outdoor season.
Missouri's All-American tandem in the 800m of National Champion Derrick Peterson and All-American Ashley Wysong each raced to victories Sunday. Wysong notched a career best finishing in 2:06.26 to win the event and move up the national ranking. Peterson paced the men's 800m at 1:48.46, his third provisional qualifying time of the season. The men's 4x400m relay team of Chad Shade, Kristian Fagerland, John Cunningham, and Thomas Woods finished first in their relay competition in 3:09.53.
The Tigers continued to improve their marks as they head towards the Big 12 Championships in two weeks. Overall 30 season or career bests were set by Missouri athletes Sunday. The Tigers next compete at the Big 12 Championships hosted by Baylor University in Waco, Texas, May 21-23.
