May 13, 1999

The Missouri Tiger Softball team (38-17) won their first Big 12 Tournament game today. They beat Texas Tech 5-2.

The Red Raiders started off the scoring in the top of the second. Christy Tunnell hit a line drive to second base. Tiger secondbaseman Jamie Lowry wasn't able to handle the ball and Paula Workman scored from second.

Missouri wouldn't be down for long. Lowry started off the bottom of the second with a base hit. Christy Skouby reached on a fielder's choice and Lowry was safe at second. Lowry and Skouby stole second and third. It was Skouby's first steal of the season. Lowry scored and Skouby advanced to third on an Amy Farmer sacrifice fly to center field. The next play Erin Erickson hit a two run homerun over the left center fence, putting the Tigers up 3-1.

Missouri scored again in the bottom of the fifth. Shawna Robinson reached first on a error by Red Raider short stop, Paula Workman, and advanced to second. Stacy Gemeinhardt singled to short stop and got caught in a run down trying to take second. Robinson took third and headed for home before the Red Raiders realized what was going on. The throw home was too late and Robinson scored. Gemeinhardt took second and headed to third. She scored when catcher Christy Tunnell overthrew third.

Texas Tech scored once more in the top of the seventh. Eva Harshman reached on a fielder's choice and stole second. She scored on an error by Tiger thirdbaseman Shayna Snarr.

Missouri will face the No. 2 seeded, Texas Longhorns tonight at 8:00 in the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium.
