Tigers Put Forth Solid Effort in 7-2 Loss

April 7, 1999

The Missouri Tigers (8-14, 1-8) fought a hard battle, but were unable to take a victory from the #32 Kansas Jayhawks (7-10, 4-2) today at the College Avenue Courts.

Freshman Biljana Pawlowa proved that she deserved her Big 12 Player of the Week honors by defeating KU's Kris Sell, ranked #22 in the nation. Pawlowa also had the only win in singles for the Tigers, taking the match in two sets, 7-5, 6-4. Sell now has a record of 23-12 overall and 1-2 in the Big 12, while Pawlowa stands at 18-12, 9-9.

Pawlowa, with partner and fellow freshman Caitlin Thompson, also took the only match in doubles, defeating Sell and Cheryl Mallaiah, 8-5. The win dropped Sell and Mallaiah to 12-15. Pawlowa and Thompson are working their way back slowly with a 5-8 record.

Missouri will face the Air Force Academy this Saturday, April 10, at 10 a.m. The match will be played at the College Avenue Courts, weather permitting.
