Tigers Hammer Westminster 17-5

COLUMBIA, Mo.- The Missouri Tigers (26-14, 8-10) have now won 12 of their last 13 games as the Tigers defeated the Westminster Bluejays (19-15) by a score of 17-5 at Simmons Field. The Tigers collected 21 hits on the day and shuffled six pitchers to the mound.

Westminster led 1-0 heading into the bottom of the second inning when the Tigers put two runs on the board. Ryan Pickett (4-for-5, 6 RBI) smacked a two-run double into the left field corner off of losing pitcher Jim Faintich (4-2). The Tigers upped their lead to 4-0 in the third inning on an RBI triple by Ryan Stegall and a sacrifice fly by Aaron Wilson. Pickett struck again in the same inning with another two-run double to give the Tigers a 6-0 advantage.

Missouri continued to pour it on in the fourth inning with five runs off of Faintich and reliever Tim Ode. Aaron Wilson clubbed a three-run home run in the inning and Pickett doubled in another. The Tigers scored two more runs in the sixth inning, three in the seventh and one in the eighth. Pickett capped his day with his first career home run and freshman Wes Fewell (3-for-3) did the same.

Logan Dale (5-2) pitched the first four innings for the Tigers and picked up the win. Dale gave up one run on two hits while striking out four. Ryan Stegall made his pitching debut in the eighth inning and retired the side in order. Freshman Brian Ackerson pitched a perfect ninth inning for Mizzou.
