Tigers Get Taken in Texas

October 25, 1998

After losing two in a row this past weekend, Missouri needs a win. Not just ny win. They need a conference win. And they only have one chance left to do it. Sunday, October 30, at Colorado, Missouri has to win to secure a berth to the Big 12 Tournament.

Knowing what a difficult weekend it was going to be, the Tigers went into Friday's game ready to play 24th ranked Texas A & M. The Aggies were ready as well. After a scoreless first half, the Tigers took the lead early in the midway through the second half when Nikki Thole headed in a Kate Dwyer cross. However, Texas A & M answered and twelve minutes later off a free kick the game was tied. Although they were outshot 26 to 9 the Tigers continued to pressure the Aggie defense, but missed on their opportunities to score. Then in the 89th minute of the game, Texas A & M fired a shot a junior goalkeeper Jackie Adamec. She punched it away, only to then face the game winning shot to be fired past her. Adamec had eleven saves for the Tigers.

Sunday's game was a different story. The last home game of the season for Texas, the Longhorns were celebrating their seniors, and thier 6-0 victory over Kansas Friday. Unlike they Tigers, they were fresh. A little worn out from Friday's grueling match with A & M, Missouri had a hard time matching their intensity. Again, a scoreless first half the Tiger defense broke down early in the second half. Texas's Valerie Page was there to make the game winning goal breeze by Adamec. The Texas victory marks the first time in series history that Missouri has lost.

Missouri takes on Illinois in a non-conference game at 3:00 on Friday at Walton Stadium, then travle to Colorado for their must-win-to be-in match up.
