LOS ANGELES -- The Missouri Tigers advanced to the championship game of the NCAA Region I softball tournament with a 3-0 victory over the Minnesota Golden Gophers Saturday afternoon at UCLA's Easton Stadium.
Missouri (41-20) won two games on Saturday, defeating Cal State Northridge 3-1 in the afternoon's second game. The Tigers will face No. 1-ranked UCLA (58-6) Sunday at 1:00 p.m. PDT for the championship. A Tiger win would force a second game at 3:00 p.m. while a UCLA victory would send the Bruins to the College World Series.
Tiger pitcher Stephanie Falk (27-12) threw her second complete game of the day, limiting the Golden Gophers to just five hits (four singles and one double). In her two games, she allowed just one unearned run and 12 hits in 14 innings while striking out 12 and walking just two.
The game was scoreless through five innings. With one out in the top of the sixth inning, Shawna Robinson reached on a bunt single. Stacy Gemeinhardt also bunted for a single. Two throwing errors on that play allowed Robinson to score the first run of the game and Gemeinhardt to move to third. One out later, Kim Slover singled in Gemeinhardt for a 2-0 lead.
Missouri added an insurance run in the seventh inning on an RBI single by Robinson, which scored pinch runner Lindsey Jacoby.
Minnesota pitcher Steph Klaviter (23-11) struck out a career-high 10 batters but lost for the second time on the afternoon. Minnesota finished with a record of 48-20, tying the school record for victories.

Missouri vs. Cal State Northridge
LOS ANGELES -- In NCAA Softball Regional action at UCLA's Easton Softball Stadium, No. 23 Missouri rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat Cal State Northridge, 3-1, Saturday afternoon. Cal State Northridge has been eliminated. Missouri moved on to face Minnesota later Saturday afternoon.Cal State Northridge finished with a 30-24 record.
The contest was scoreless until Cal State Northridge took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning. With two outs, right fielder Jodi Borenstein singled, moved to third on a double by second baseman Katrina Nolletti and scored on a throwing error by Tiger shortstop Shawna Robinson, who attempted to make a play on Nolletti at third base.
The bottom of the sixth began with left fielder Wendy Harrison being hit by a pitch. First baseman Kim Slover singled and advanced to second on the throw, with Harrison moving to third. Third baseman Linda Swarts singled home the first run and advanced to second on the throw, with pinch runner Lindsey Jacoby advancing to third. Jacoby scored the tie-breaking run on a sacrifice fly by second baseman Jamie Lowry and pinch runner Sara McNeal advanced to third. McNeal then scored on a sacrifice fly by Christy Skouby.
Tiger pitcher Stephanie Falk improved to 26-12 with the complete-game victory. She allowed just seven hits and one unearned run while striking out four and walking none. Wendy Harrison was the only Tiger with two hits while Nolletti was the only Matador to record two hits.
