Manhattan, Kan. - Derrick Peterson won his third straight Big 12 Indoor Championship in the 800m Saturday in the second day of competition at the conference meet. The junior is now 5-0 in conference 800m races since he arrived at Mizzou, after running a 1:51.88 race. Senior Chad Shade also won a Big 12 Championship, posting the best time overall in the men's 600 yard run at 1:10.79.
Over the two-day meet, Missouri was awarded 27 conference honors in route to a fifth place team finish by the men with 64 points and a seventh place finish by the women with 48 points.
Sophomore Micah Shanks earned his second all-Big 12 award of the meet, finishing fifth in the men's shot put with a 56-6 personal best put. Shanks finished eighth yesterday in the 35 lb. weight throw with a school record toss of 58-1/4. On the women's side of the weight throw, Missouri's Heather White finished third posting a distance of 57-2.
In the men's high jump, MU's Adam Ford cleared 6-91/2, jumping to a sixth place finish and his first all-conference award. Carlos Posey finished fifth and will bring home his first all-Big 12 conference honor from the meet in the 60m dash. The junior from Baton Rouge, La. ran a 6.74 race in the final, but his best time came Friday in the semi-finals when he provisionally qualified in the second event with a 6.70 dash.
Two Missouri women are 1999 triple jump all-conference athletes. Lindsey Miller earned her second all-Big 12 indoor award with a finish on Saturday and Eli Sommerfeldt was named all-conference for the second time at the 1999 event with a finish in the triple jump.
Also earning conference honors were Katie Meyer and Ann Marie Brooks in the women's mile, Jeff Strong in the men's mile, Sunny Gilbert, Jessica Patton, Becky Froelker, and Erin Windler in the women's 1000m, Timothy Dunne, and Blair Hansard in the 800m, and senior Ryan Pirtle who finished second in the men's 3000m run with a 8:15.58 time.
Missouri's men's 4x400 relay was all-Big 12 as the team of Chad Shade, Kristian Fagerland, Derrick Peterson, and Thomas Woods registered a time of 3:15.51 and finished fifth overall. It was the second all-conference award of the day for Woods, he finished eighth in the men's 200m earlier Saturday.
