MU Track Second at Triangular

January 23, 1999

Manhattan, KS - The Missouri track team turned in a second place performance Saturday at the MU/KSU/KU Triangular in Manhattan, Kansas. The Tigers finished with 235 points, thirty points behind the event winning Kansas State Wildcats, who ended with 265 team points. The University of Kansas finished third with 193 points overall. This was the tenth year the schools have competed in the event.

Eight Missouri Tiger individuals were first place finishers and one school record was broken. All-American Derrick Peterson was the event's 800m winner turning in a 1:52.44 time for MU. Also winning running events were Dan Dellegrazio (1,000m), Thomas Woods (200m), and Chad Shade (600yd). Carlos Posey, a starting defensive back on the Missouri football team, ran to victory in the 55m dash in his first race of the track season. Posey had not practiced with the team, but sprinted to a 6.26 time in the dash, provisionally qualifying him for the NCAA Championships after his only race.

Michelle Moran (high jump), Lindsey Miller (triple jump), and William Hopson (long jump) all won their respective field event. Each now has won their event in both of Missouri's meets in 1999. For the second time in as many meets, Micah Shanks broke his own 35 lbs, weight throw school record. The sophomore bettered the record twice during competition Saturday, finally setting the mark at 54-8 and finishing third in the event overall. MU also won three of four relay races, headed by the mens 4x400 team which ran a 3:16.38 race.

Missouri will host the Bradley Braves and UMKC Kangaroos next Saturday in the Hearnes Fieldhouse for a triangular meet.
