COLUMBIA, Mo.-Who says exhibitions aren't fun? In an exciting Missouri intrasquad swimming meet on Friday night, the women's meet ended in a 108-108 tie while the black team defeated the gold team 116-95 on the men's side in the annual Black and Gold Meet.
Junior Rikki Janes, representing the gold team, headlined the women's meet with victories in both the 200 individual medley (2 minutes, 11.02 seconds) and the 100 backstroke (1 minute, 19 seconds). The women's meet also was a chance to showcase their very talented freshmen class. Three freshmen swimmers collected wins. Krista Davis won the 100 butterfly in an impressive time of 59.50. Katie Fields took home the 500 freestyle in a time of 5 minutes, 8.05 seconds. Molly Vetter was victorious in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1 minute, 56.20 seconds.
"The women swam extremely for an early October meet considering the training they went through this week," Head Coach Brian Hoffer said.
On the men's side, sophomore Aaron Lo, representing the black, stole the show with victories in the 50 freestyle (21.27) and the 100 breaststroke (58.34).
"Aaron Lo had a great meet," said Hoffer.
Hoffer was also pleased with his senior class on the men's side, all of whom posted impressive times. Chris Peters' time of 52.37 in the 100 backstroke just missed breaking his own pool record.
"That was a great time, especially for this early in the season," said Hoffer.
The Tigers are next in action on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 10:00 a.m. in the Alumni Meet. Missouri will head for Lincoln, NE on Oct. 23 for the Big 12 Invite.
