COLUMBIA, MO--- Missouri state standout Kerensa Barr, a 5-10 point guard from West Plains, Mo., has signed a national letter-of-intent to play basketball at the University of Missouri, Tiger head coach Cindy Stein announced today.
Barr averaged 15.3 points and five assists per game as a junior. She shot 57.8 percent from the field and 81.8 percent from the free throw line last season. She helped to guide West Plains High School to the Missouri State 4A Championship last season.
Barr earned first-team all-state honors her junior year. She was also named all-conference, all-district, and USA Today Missouri honorable mention last season. Off the court, Barr ranks first in her class (270) and is a Wendy's Heisman State Finalist. She also earned letters in volleyball and track.
"One of our goals coming into the University of Missouri was to get the best player in the state," said Stein. "We achieved this goal today with the signing of Kerensa Barr. She is an outstanding student, person and player.
She is one of the finest guards I have ever seen when it comes to having the complete package- court smarts, ball-handling, scoring and defense. Once again, we have signed a young lady who comes from a very successful high school program (1998 state champions). She is well-coached by her high school coach Scott Womak and her father Tom Barr (head men's basketball coach at SW Missouri State- West Plains Junior College). Her intensity, work ethic and skills will be an enhancement to our program."
Barr chose Missouri over Arizona State, Southwest Missouri State and Valparaiso.
