COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - Albert White scored 22 points and Monte Hardge added 12 points and eight rebounds to lead Missouri to a season-opening 87-46 victory over Jackson State Friday night.
White and Hardge combined for Missouri's first 12 points in a game that the Tigers led by more than 20 points much of the way.
Missouri had never lost to Jackson State in five games and the Tigers made sure early that the streak would continue. Jackson State struggled to get a shot off against a Missouri's man-to-man defense. After 10 minutes, Jackson State had attempted only 10 shots, scoring six points, while turning the ball over 14 times.
At the 9:40 mark, after a six-minute Jackson State scoreless stretch, Missouri led 19-6.
Keyon Dooling made an impressive debut for Missouri with 12 points and six assists.
Missouri put an exclamation mark on the first half with a 14-0 run in the final 2:30. Missouri shot 57 percent from the field in the first half, including a 5-for-8 performance from 3-point range.
Missouri kept the rout going with five quick points in the second half on a Hardge bucket and a Brian Grawer 3-pointer. That gave the Tigers a 58-22 lead and Jackson State could not climb any closer than a 30-point deficit at 61-31.
Vincent Jones paced Jackson State (0-1) with 10 points.
