Missouri Track Men Finish 2nd; Women 3rd at 3rd Annual Missouri Invitational

Columbia, Mo. - The Missouri Track and Field team used a great day of performances Saturday to earn a second place finish for the men (176 points) and a third place finish for the women (152.50) at the 3rd Annual Missouri Invitational at the Audrey J. Walton Track Stadium. Nebraska won the meet on the mens side with 219 points and Kansas State took the womens first place award with 194.50 points. Kansas State took fourth place on the mens side at 114 points, Nebraska took second in the womens events with 180 points, and Southern Illinois-Carbondale finished third in mens and fourth in the womens with 151 and 124 points respectively. The four teams brought their best Saturday as all athletes set a total of 24 meet records.

In his final home meet at Missouri, senior Thomas Woods set a Missouri Invitational record in winning the 400m dash by running a 46.93 race, narrowly missing the NCAA provisional mark of 46.40. Also setting a meet record was junior William Hopson in the long jump. Hopson leaped a career best 24-6 1/2 to win the meets event by over three feet. Missouris 800m indoor National Champion, Derrick Peterson showed his versatility as a middle distance runner by not only winnning his speciality, the 800m in 1:52.14, but Peterson pulled away from the field in the final 50m to also win the mens 1500m in 3:50.06. Derrick also ran the anchor leg of Missouris 4x400m relay team that finished first in a meet record 3:11.48.

Senior All-American Darin File marked a season best with a 228-11 javelin throw as he finished second in the javelin competition. Junior Darrell Meinke won the discus throw for the third time this season with a 163-6 toss, his second home meet win of the season. Timothy Dunne, a freshman from Jerome, Idaho, set a season best mark for the third consecutive meet, running a 1:52.68 800m and finishing second.

The Tiger women got a victory from 800m indoor All-American Ashley Wysong in the 800m, as she ran to victory in 2:09.00. Katie Meyer won the womens 1500m for the second straight week, finishing in 4:29.1, the victory was also the fourth of the year for the junior in the 1500m this outdoor season. Michelle Moran used a season best time of 14.90 in the 100m hurdles, to earn Missouri a victory in the event. Freshman Brooke Ennen continued to improve by throwing a season best 139-1 in the womens hammer throw. Follow freshman Carla Grewe scored a personal best in the shot put at 39-8 1/2.

Missouri next competes at the Phil Diamond Quadrangle, part of the U.S. Collegiate Series, hosted by the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Ohio State, Penn State, and host Michigan will tangle with Missouri at the event next Sunday, May 9.
