Missouri Softball Has Successful Spring Break

The Missouri softball team didn't get a tradtional spring break. During their week off from school the Tigers were scheduled to play four double-headers, including their first two Big 12 Conference double-headers.

Missouri began their trip March 23 against Wichita State. They won the first game easily 6-0. Junior Stacy Gemeinhardt continued her strong performance at the plate with a double in the seveth inning. Junior Amy Farmer also had a good game for the Tigers, driving in a three run home run in the seventh inning. Sophomore Stephanie Falk was the winning pitcher. Falk gave up only three hits and struck out seven batters.

The Tigers were not so lucky in the second game of the day. Wichita State pulled off a 1-0 win. The only run of the game was scored in the first inning. The Shockers' Jillene Black hit a double with two outs and drove in Susie Gates. Missouri had five hits in the game, but were unable to score. Senior Kim Slover led the team with two hits, a single in the fourth inning and a triple in the sixth.

Missouri continued their trip in Tulsa on March 25. Missouri swept the double-header winning 8-6 and 3-2. Junior Linda Swarts had three hits in four at bats with one run and two RBI in the first game. Swarts had two singles amd a double. Slover had another good game for Missouri with two hits in three at bats and one RBI. Junior Wendy Harrison was 3 for 7 on the day, with a triple in the first game. Harrison scored three runs and had an RBI for the day. Junior Christy Skouby rounded out the stellar Tiger performance at the plate hitting 1.00 for the day with one hit in the first game and two in the second.

The Tigers opened Big 12 Conference play at Oklahoma on March 27. They were scheduled to play two games, but the first was suspended after five-and-a-half innings and the second game was cancelled due to poor weather conditions. The Tigers lost the game 0-1. The Missouri bats could not get going as they only had two hits on the day.

Missouri's record improved to 24-12. They faced Oklahoma State on Sunday.
