Lafayette, La. - The University of Missouri men's golf team finished tied for 14th place at the Louisiana Classic, held March 8-9, 1999, at Oakbourne Country Club, in Lafayette, La. The tournament featured 54 holes of play, and the Tigers finished tied with fellow Big 12 member Kansas State, for 14th, with identical scores of 920.
Junior DAVID SUGGS (72-70-79=221) led the way individually for Missouri, as the Chesterfield, Mo. veteran notched his first top-20 finish of the spring, with a three-round total of 221. That placed him in a tie for 19th individually, and left him only four strokes out of the top 10.
Sophomore BLAYNE ROSELY (78-73-77=228) was the next Tiger finisher, as he tied for 43rd place overall, with a three-round total of 228. His second-round 73 represented a personal spring season best for the Quincy, Ill. native.
A trio of freshmen rounded out the Tiger contingent, as four strokes separated rookies MARK McBRIDE (83-76-77=236), JANSZEN RINGO (82-82-76=240) and NEAL STAFFORD (79-81-80=240). McBride finished in a tie for 68th individually, with his three-round total of 236, while Ringo and Stafford each tied for 76th overall, with identical totals of 240 apiece.
Additionally, freshman CHRIS HAPP (83-82-82=247) competed as an individual, and placed 79th overall, with a three-round total of 247.
Next up for the Tigers is the prestigious UNC-Charlotte Birkdale Classic, to be held March 12-13 at Birkdale Golf Club, in Huntersville, N.C. The tournament will feature several of the nation's top-ranked collegiate teams.
