COLUMBIA, Mo.- Junior pitcher Jody Harris has been named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year by the Big 12 coaches. The left-hander from Duncan, Neb. went 8-4 this season with an ERA of 2.77. He hurled 100 2/3 innings allowing just 31 earned runs. He recorded 93 strikeouts and walked just 19.
Harris heads a group of seven Missouri players that were honored by the Big 12 coaches. Harris was named first team All-Big 12 while senior third baseman Aaron Wilson was selected to the second team. Wilson led the Tigers in hitting with a .373 batting average. He hit five home runs and drove in a team-best 55 runs.
Five players gained honorable mention honors including freshman shortstop Ryan Stegall who led Mizzou with 12 home runs. Also receiving honorable mention were senior pitchers Chris George and Justin Stine. Both pitchers were all-conference performers a year ago. Sophomores Jon Williams and J.R. Warner also received honorable mention from the Big 12 coaches.
Baylor's Jason Jennings was named the Big 12 Player of the Year. Freshman of the Year honors went to Nebraska pitcher Shane Komine. The Big 12 Coach of the Year went to Texas A&M's Mark Johnson who led the Aggies to their second straight regular season Big 12 title.
