May 21, 1999

Waco, Texas - After the first day of competition at the 1999 Big 12 Outdoor Championships at Baylor University, the Missouri Track & Field team seems to be headed for a great weekend of championship performances. The Tigers are the in the thick of the decathlon and heptathlon after one day of events and have earned one all-Big 12 honor.

Justa Dahl was the first MU athlete to become a 1999 outdoor all-Big 12 performer as the sophomore finished third in the women's 10,000m with a time of 36:19.79.

Senior captain, Rannveig Kvalvik leads the women's heptathlon after one day of competition at the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Waco, Texas. Kvalvik finished day one with 3,261 points by winning the 100m hurdles and tying for a first place finish in the high jump. Ranveig is one of five Tiger heptathletes in the top twelve of the standings heading into tomorrows final day of multi-event action.

Sophomore Michele Moran turned in a breakthrough performance, passing the 3,000 point barrier after the first day of competition for the first time in her MU career, earning 3,099 points and sixth place. Jill Aholt, Eli Sommerfeldt, and Jill Osenbaugh are in very good shape going into the final events. Aholt is in ninth with 2,984 points, Osenbaugh in 11th at 2,948 , and Sommerfeldt in 12th with 2,900 points even.
