Alli was a prolific long jumper and sprinter from Nigeria from 1981-85 who was a four-time all-American at Mizzou and a three-time Big Eight Conference champion. He won the league outdoor long jump championship as a freshman in 1981 and again in ’85 and won the indoor title in 1984. He earned all-America honors outdoors in the long jump by finishing third at the NCAA Championships in 1982, ’83 and ’85. He also ran a leg on MU’s 4x100 meter relay team that took second in the nation for all-America status in 1985. He was a three-time Olympian for his home country of Nigeria, competing in the 1980 Moscow Games (24th), the 1984 Los Angeles Games (9th) and the 1988 Seoul Games (14th). He was the captain of Team Nigeria in both 1984 and 1988. Alli won the gold medal at the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland, New Zealand, and still holds the Missouri outdoor long jump record at 26-feet, 9-inches, set at the 1982 NCAA Championships. His personal best was 27-feet, 1.75 inches at the 1990 African Championships. He has been a sports leader in Nigeria and this summer was coordinator of Team Nigeria for the Commonwealth Games that were held in Birmingham, England. He also serves as the chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission.
