Sundvold and teammate Steve Stipanovich are the only two players in Big Eight Conference history to have played on four consecutive league championship teams (1980-83). Those teams had a cumulative record of 100-28. A guard from Blue Springs, Missouri, he twice won all-conference, all-district and all-Big Eight Tournament honors, and was an all-American in 1983. At the time of his induction, he ranked third at MU in both points (1,597) and assists (382). Sundvold was a first-round pick of the Seattle SuperSonics in the 1983 draft, and later played for the San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat. In 1989, he set the NBA record for three-point shooting during the league’s All-Star Weekend. In 1989, Sundvold established MU’s first endowed basketball scholarship. His number 20 has been retired. He became an accomplished television basketball analyst after his playing days working for a variety of networks. He owns a financial services company in Columbia, served on the University’s Board of Curators, and was board president in 2019. He was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2012.
