Conrad Hitchler served in the U.S. Marine Corps before accepting a scholarship in 1959 from Coach Dan Devine to come play football for the University of Missouri. Big, strong, fast and with an exceptional set of hands, he was a standout two-way end for the Tigers, lettering from 1960-62. From Kansas City, he led Mizzou in receiving in 1961 and was an all-Big Conference selection in both 1961 and ‘62. He earned all-America status as a senior in 1961 and went on to play in the East-West Shrine Game, the Hula Bowl and the Coaches All-America Game. In the Bluebonnet Bowl, Hitchler was voted Outstanding Lineman. During his career, he also received the Knute Rockne “Lineman of the Year” award for his stellar play on the gridiron. Upon graduation from Mizzou, he played three years in the Canadian Football League as a member of the Calgary Stampeders. His son, Conrad Goode, was an all-America offensive tackle for the Tigers in 1983 and is also in the MU Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame. After leaving football, Hitchler worked in the insurance industry, sold sporting equipment, owned and operated a sports embroidery company, and worked for Lafarge Corp. He later started his own company, Innovative Construction Materials, which specialized in insulated concrete forms. He was enshrined in the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2013.
