OUTLOOK: One of 18 wrestlers on the team to hail from the state of Missouri, redshirt freshman Garrett Jones will compete in the 157-pound weight class for the upcoming season.

"Garrett has done a great job of working on, and improving, his mat skills in the off season," Missouri Head Coach Brian Smith said. "He's a hard-working wrestler and is a great wrestling partner for several of our guys."

2007-08: Jones wrestled in the 174-pound weight class during the 2007-08 season. In his first match of the campaign Jones went up against Joe Hulsey of Missouri Valley College and won by decision, 1-0, while at the Central Missouri Open on Nov. 11. Jones recorded the first fall of his collegiate career on Nov. 18 at the Missouri open. Wrestling Derek Holt of Rend Lake, Jones pinned his opponent in 2:58.

HIGH SCHOOL: As a member of the Odessa High School Bulldog wrestling team, Jones wrestled at 152 and 160 pounds under Head Coach Roger Offield. Jones earned all-state academic honors in 2006 and 2007. Competing at the state championships, Jones took second at 152 pounds his junior year (2006) and fourth as a senior (2007). One of six Bulldog medalists in 2007, Jones' squad finished second in the Missouri Class 2 State Wrestling Tournament. A seven-time letterwinner, Jones was a member of the wrestling, football and baseball teams.

PERSONAL: Born on Sept. 15, 1988, to Stan and Jenny Jones in Odessa, Mo., Jones has two sisters, Kiley (24) and Rachel (16). He plans to major in electrical engineering at Mizzou.
