Catching Up With Mack
| Nickname(s) | Mac, Mackie P, Mac daddy, Kenz, Kenzie, grandma |
| What sport would you choose if not playing golf, and why? | Softball. I grew up playing softball and golf since the age of five. If I didn't choose to focus on golf, I would most definitely be playing collegiate softball. |
| First memory of golf? | Winning the Junior Club Championship at age 7. |
| When did you get hooked on golf? | When I started beating my dad around 11 years old. |
| Are you excited for the new rules of golf coming in 2019? Why/why not? | I am very excited for the new rules of golf. They are a lot more relaxed, especially on the green. All of these rules will be beneficial for pace of play so hopefully it can reduce the amount of 5-1/2 hour rounds. |
| Favorite club in the bag right now | 47-degree wedge |
| Favorite type of shot to play | Bump and runs. |
| Hardest shot for you to play | Flops off bent grass (tight lies). |
| What driver & putter are in your bag? | Driver: Callaway Epic; Putter: Odyssey. |
| Favorite golf moment | Winning an AJGA tournament by holing out on #18 from 140 yards. |
| Any hole in ones? | None. |
| How do you cope with a bad shot? | I only give myself 10 seconds to get mad about it and then think about how I can recover. The most important thing to think about is finding a way to make no higher than bogey. |
| What advice would you give to junior golfers? | Stay patient, keep working hard, and don't put too much pressure on yourself. Play as much as possible. That's the best way to practice and learn your strengths and weaknesses. |
| What’s your pre-shot routine? | One slow practice swing to get the feeling that I want down, stand behind the ball, choose my target, position myself over the ball, stare at my target for 3-5 seconds, head down and swing. |
| Coolest course you’ve played? | Monterey Peninsula Country Club - Ocean. |
| Toughest course you’ve played? | Kiawah Island - Ocean Course. |
| Prefer a Par 3, Par 4 or Par 5? | Par 5. |
| Do you like to talk to playing partners or do you keep to yourself? | I noticed the more I talk, the better I play so I guess I prefer to talk to my playing partners. |
| What do you want to do post-golf, career-wise? | Work in the communications department for the PGA. |
| What part of the game do you feel most comfortable with? | 120-150 yard shots. |
| How frustrating is this game? | Very frustrating. |
| Do you remember the good shots or the bad shots more? | I could play the best round of my life and still only talk about the bad shots after. |
| What part of your game do you want to improve the most? | Consistency off the tee box. |
| Your dream foursome | Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, Justin Thomas, Smylie Kaufman. |
| What lessons can you apply from golf to real life? | Stay patient and things might just fall into place. |
| What about golf drives you crazy? | The inconsistency. |
| What about golf keeps you coming back? | The challenge. |
