John Poettgen enters his fifth season on head coach Cuonzo Martin’s staff, and his 14th overall working with Mizzou Men’s Basketball. Most recently an operations assistant for the Tigers, Martin elevated Poettgen to his current role of Assistant to the Head Coach ahead of the 2017-18 season.

Poettgen’s behind-the-scenes role with Mizzou Basketball spans four head coaching tenures, with his involvement starting with the Tigers as an undergraduate athletic performance intern for the 2009-10 campaign.

Prior to serving as operations assistant for Mizzou for the 2016-17 season, Poettgen worked two campaigns as a graduate assistant (2014-16).  After beginning in the weight room, Poettgen worked his way to head student manager for four seasons.

A native of Freeburg, Missouri, Poettgen is a two-time graduate of the University of Missouri, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Parks, Recreation & Tourism in 2012, and a Master’s degree in Education in 2014.
