Job Description and Application Information

Overview

The University of Missouri Department of Athletics is looking for Public Address Announcers and backup Public Address Announcers* for its home athletic schedule.

The PA Announcer’s duties include:

  • Announcing starting line-ups
  • All game action
  • Public address announcements
  • Presentations
  • Contests
  • Other duties as assigned

The PA Announcer is the main voice of the Missouri Tigers while in the stadium/arena. The PA Announcer works closely with the marketing staff and others to create a friendly and entertaining environment.

Requirements

  • Strong vocal talent
  • A unique and definitive personality
  • Ability to multi-task in a high energy environment
  • Comfortable announcing to crowds, both large and small, on a microphone
  • Comfortable announcing complex names
  • Able to attend all home events for assigned sport(s)
  • Able to arrive to assigned event up to 3 hours early
  • Available to attend appropriate pregame meetings
  • Receptive to constructive criticism
  • Ability to improvise and react quickly (when appropriate)
  • Strong knowledge of college athletics, including rules and positions is preferred
  • Experienced voice talent working in sports, television, radio or on stage is preferred

Compensation
The public address announcer compensation varies by sport.

Applicant must submit the following to Andrew Schuster at schusteran@missouri.edu no later than May 1st, 2018:

  • Cover letter including information about why applicant feels he or she is qualified for the position
  • Resume detailing relevant experience
  • A minimum of three references specifically related to applicant’s ability to perform required duties
  • An MP3 of applicant’s voice performing in some capacity for at least 3 minutes

* Backup Public Address Announcers will serve in an ‘as-needed’ role.
