Mizzou / UCF Postgame Notes

Game notes – Mizzou 64, UCF 62 (OT)

  • Mizzou’s overtime win over UCF is its first overtime win since Mizzou beat Mississippi State last season in OT, 89-85 (2/10/18).
  • Despite the extra period, Mizzou held UCF to just 62 points, the least amount of points scored by the Knights this season. Most recently, the Knights scored 66 against Northern Kentucky (11/24/18).
  • UCF’s loss is just its second of the season. The Knights also fell to FAU, 80-79.
  • Mizzou was dominant on the offensive boards, grabbing 17 rebounds on that side of the floor, a new season high for the Tigers. Mizzou’s previous mark for offensive rebounds came against Kennesaw State on Nov. 16 when the Tigers grabbed 12.
  • Mizzou has now grabbed double digit offensive rebounds in five of its seven games this season.
  • Mizzou outrebounded UCF 33-32 for the game. Mizzou has now outrebounded its opponent in six of the seven games that have been played. This is the 28th time in 40 games Mizzou has outrebounded its opponent in the Martin era.
  • Mizzou recorded double-digit three-point field goals for the second time this season, with 12, and the second game in a row. Senior Jordan Geist led the team with five for the game. This is the third consecutive game Geist has hit three or more three-point field goals.
  • Senior guard Jordan Geist was feeling it from deep, hitting five of his eight shots from beyond the arc, including the game-tying basket at the horn. He has hit five three balls in one game only one other time in his career, knocking in five against Green Bay last season (12/9/17).
  • Sophomore forward Mitchell Smith played his best career game against UCF, putting together a nine-point, seven-rebound effort, both of which are career highs. Smith also hit on two big three-pointers in the game, the first time in his career he has hit multiple treys in a single contest. Geist tied his career mark for three pointers made with five. The Mizzou guard also reached double-digit points for the fourth straight game scoring 18.
  • Freshman guard Javon Pickett recorded a career high 13 points against the Knights. It is his first time scoring in double figures.
  • Sophomore Jeremiah Tilmon scored 10 points against UCF, his fourth time in double figures already this season.
  • Freshman guard Xavier Pinson snared four rebounds, matching his season high. He also had four at Iowa State (11/9/18).
