Head Coach Robin Pingeton
Opening Statement…
“I’m proud of our seniors, I think they really stepped it up tonight. They had a few adjustments with Sophie injured and I think our seniors did a really good job for us tonight. I thought Lianna Doty did a good job just being a floor general. Sierra Michaelis obviously hit some big shots for us, we needed her scoring. Lindsey Cunningham just battled, battled on the boards and was just kind of a utility player. We were anxious to get back on track, obviously very disappointed after a tough loss against IUPUI against a good team.”
On season thus far…
“You go into the season and you are so excited and the expectations that you have for yourself and each other are so high. When you have injury after injury it can be a little deflating and frustrating. But we have a pretty special team with some pretty talented players. The culture that we have in the locker room is pretty unique and it looks different than we all anticipated but that doesn’t mean it can’t be just as enjoyable. We have to focus on owning it one day at a time. We have to trust in each other and believe in ourselves and go out there and let it all hang out. I think we are in a good place.”
Redshirt senior Lianna Doty
On the team’s response to the loss this weekend…
“It was a disappointing, and embarrassing honestly, for us going down there and just getting it taken to us. Coach took a lot of responsibility there, but we all just flat out didn’t bring it. We’re seniors, we know what it takes to bring it every game and we didn’t bring it. We knew we needed to increase intensity and focus and that’s what we had to bring to this game. Our shots aren’t always going to fall, but we know what we can bring every night and we flat out didn’t bring that so we definitely had a different mentality and intensity that we need to continue to be consistent with throughout the remainder of this season.”
On the team getting to the free throw line frequently…
“I think we were being aggressive, we were getting the ball inside, which is good. We need to get more touches inside. They were just calling a lot of fouls tonight, honestly, both ways. But yeah I think something that we need to continue to get better at is getting more touches inside. We have some great post players so getting that in and out action is something we need to get better at.”
On Sierra Michaelis…
“We always know Sierra can go off. She can score in bunches, it’s what she does. We have total confidence in her so I’m going to feed her the ball with confidence that she’s going to flat out stroke it in. That’s just a glimpse, that’s something we expect of her, that’s something that she does bring. She’s been getting in the gym, she knows it’s her last go around here, and she’s taking every opportunity. I expect that and I expect more of that from here on out.”
Senior guard Sierra Michaelis
On getting extra shots up outside of practices or games…
“The past few games we have really talked about consistency and getting in the gym more. It is my last year so I don’t want to take anything for granted or waste this year. I’m trying to get in the gym more and become more consistent with my game shots.”
On her hot start...
“I was making them in warmups, so I was like why not shoot right now? With Sophie out I knew I had big shoes to fill with scoring so, I let it fly.”
