Mizzou / Missouri State Post Game Quotes
Mizzou Women’s Basketball Postgame Quotes
Mizzou 73, Missouri State 49
Redshirt senior Lindsey Cunningham
On chemistry with sister Sophie Cunningham…
“We do have a fun connection that I think just goes back to growing up it was just the two of us playing all day every day, whatever sport it was together and growing up with such a close bond. It’s really fun to share it with her on the court but we’ve got a team that we have that really strong bond with all 13 of us so it’s really cool when we’re able to get excited for other people. It is just even more special I get to share it with my actual sister.”
On shot selection…
“I think coach kind of challenged us after our last game to really play for something bigger than ourselves. I think we did kind of get away from playing for the front of the jersey just a little bit and so we tried to get back to that tonight and I think as you saw, we were making the extra pass, getting excited for each other and feeding off of it so I think we are just getting back to Mizzou basketball and that is great ball movement and giving up a good shot for a great shot.”
Mizzou head coach Robin Pingeton
Opening Statement…
“Missouri State has a really good team. They’ve played one heck of a tough schedule and I’m sure they feel a little bit like we have with all the travel that they’ve had, they’ve been all over the place as well. They’re probably one of the few teams that has played as much on the road as we have so I’ve got to believe that fatigue played a part especially in the second half but I’m proud of our girls. We weren’t satisfied with our performance against Western Illinois. We watched some film on them, then really challenged our kids to play at another level. I didn’t think we would shoot the ball any better, but I knew we could play harder than what we played and I thought tonight we really competed. I thought we played physical, we had excellent ball movement, we had some really good possessions out there and I’m proud of the way our girls bounced back from our game on Tuesday.”
On team defense…
“I thought we defended really well and that was one of the things we focused on after that Western Illinois game. I just felt like we could have guarded harder than what we did. We didn’t always nail every rotation that we needed to. I thought our girls were more in a stance tonight and I think that created a lot of transition buckets for us. I’m very pleased with what we got done on the defensive end and again I’m going to give Missouri State some credit here. I don’t think the score is necessarily indicative of the kind of team that they are. I think that they’re an extremely well coached team, I think that they compete really hard, I think that they’ve had a really, really challenging schedule and again makes it very tough for them.”
