Mizzou 82, Xavier 83 (OT) - Postgame Notes

  • Freshman guard Frankie Hughes scored 24 points to lead Mizzou in the game, becoming the first Tiger to ever start his career with back-to-back 20-point games. Hughes scored 23 points in his collegiate debut against Alabama A&M on Nov. 13.
  • Hughes sank five shots from beyond the three-point arc in the game, the first time a Tiger has sank five or more from deep since Namon Wright drained six from deep against Ole Miss on Feb. 23, 2016.
  • Mizzou had three players score 20 or more points; Hughes (24), sophomore forward Kevin Puryear (22) and sophomore guard Terrence Phillips (21), for the first time since Feb. 8, 2014, when Earnest Ross (24), Jordan Clarkson (23) and Jabari Brown (20) did so against Ole Miss.
  • The 21-point output from Phillips is a new career-high, surpassing his previous high of 16 set twice last year.
  • Phillips had five assists in the game for the second game in a row, just the fourth time in his career he has had back-to-back games of five or more assists.
  • Phillips was a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe in the game, setting a career high for free throws made in a game.
  • Puryear recorded his second career double-double in the game with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Puryear scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds against Auburn on Jan. 9, 2016.
  • Puryear was 11-of-12 from the free throw line in the game, becoming the first Tiger to sink 10 free throws in a game since he did so against Arkansas (10-of-11) on Feb. 20, 2016.
