Mizzou Softball's First Team All-SEC infielder Corrin Genovese has a knack for making "GIF-worthy" plays. What is a "GIF"? GIF (graphics interchange format) is a common way to share images on the Internet, often times coming in the form of animation. Why would we need an animation? Highlights! And Genovese creates plenty of them.
SETTING THE STAGE: It was March 28, and No. 16 Mizzou (23-8) was hosting No. 13 Georgia (29-3) at University Field. The opening game of the Tigers' series vs. the Bulldogs was an important one to have, as Mizzou needed to start adding wins to its 2-4 start in SEC play.
THE PLAY: Usually known for her glove, Genovese became the first Mizzou player since 2007 to hit two home runs in the same inning. The Tiger infielder led off the bottom of the third inning with a solo home run to left center, setting the score at 2-1 in favor of Georgia. By the time Genovese came back up for the second time in the frame, Mizzou led 7-2. Her second trip to #BombCity (as it is often called on Twitter) was also of the solo shot variety. The Tigers totaled four home runs in the inning and scored eight runs total. Sami Fagan and Kelsea Roth also launched long balls.
THE OUTCOME: Mizzou went on to win, 8-6, in what would be the first victory of a crucial series win. The victory was the first of 13 SEC wins that the Tigers claimed after their 2-4 league start.
