"Mr. Magic" created unprecedented basketball excitement during his two-year career (1974-76). The guard from Las Vegas, Nev., took Missouri to its first outright basketball conference championship in 46 years in 1976, and nearly got the Tigers to the NCAA Final Four. Averaging 25.3 points per game, he was the Big Eight's leading scorer in 1976, and scored 43 points in a narrow loss to Michigan in the NCAA Midwest Regional championship game. He was MU's MVP, all Big Eight and all-district in each of his two seasons, and was an all-American as a senior. He still holds six school records and scored more points (1,387) than any two-year player in school history. Smith played with several NBA teams after being drafted in the second round by the Chicago Bulls in 1976. He's one of five Tigers who've had their number (30) retired.
