University of Missouri Athletics

A native of St. Louis (Normandy High School), Sheehan was a two-sport star for Missouri from 1946-1949. In football, he was twice an all-conference end leading the Tigers and the Big Seven Conference in receiving in 1947 and '48. He was named to the College All-Star Game in 1949, and was called by at least one observer, "the best blocking end I ever saw." He was a second-team all-American as a senior. In track, Sheehan lettered in 1943, '46-48. He was the Big Seven Conference discus champion from 1946-48, and earned all-America honors in that event in 1947 and '48. During his career, he established both the MU and conference discus records. He was a member of three straight Missouri track teams that won outdoor conference championships from 1947-49. He worked as a Big Eight Conference football official from 1961-71, working a number of games of national importance, including six bowl games. Later, he returned to MU as director of athletics from 1972-78.
