COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou baseball secured its ninth-consecutive win, 9-8, over UIC Thursday night at Taylor Stadium. The Tigers improved to 11-2, 0-0 SEC while the Flames dropped to 4-7, 0-0 MVC on the year.
Mizzou used consecutive long-balls by Eric Maisonet and Isaiah Frost in the seventh and freshman Sam Rosand earned his first career save as he worked out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam, to give the Tigers the win.
The Tigers' offense jumped out to another hot start, putting up two runs in the first inning against the Flames righty. Tyler Macon extended his on-base streak to 14 games with a lead-off walk, followed by another walk from Jase Woita that extended his own on-base streak to nine games. A double steal from Macon and Woita put runners on second and third with just one out, allowing Pierre Seals to drive Macon in on an RBI groundout to the shortstop. Kaden Peer, making his first start of the season, brought Woita in to score on an RBI single to right field in his first at-bat of the campaign, after returning from an injury that kept him off the field for Mizzou's first 12 games of the season.
The Tigers extended their lead to 3-0 in the second inning with a double off the bat of Macon who later came around to score on a wild pitch, extending his hit-streak to 12 games.
The Flames added a run in the fourth, but Mizzou responded in the bottom half of the inning with two more of their own to make it a 5-1 ballgame. Woita singled to center field, bringing Eric Maisonet home to extend his hit streak to nine games. With two outs, Seals reached safely on an error by the second basemen that brought Macon in to score from third.
UIC grabbed some momentum with a two-out rally in the fifth inning, putting up three runs on four walks and two hits, cutting the deficit to a run.
Mizzou added an insurance run in the sixth, started by a lead-off double to left field from Frost, who came around to score thanks to a sacrifice bunt from Macon, followed by a wild pitch that gave the Tigers a 6-4 lead.
After the Flames put up a two spot in the seventh to tie the game at six runs apiece, the Tigers bounced back once again with three runs of their own. With two outs, Chris Patterson took a walk and Maisonet followed it up with an opposite-field, two-run homer to left for his second of the season to put Mizzou in front. Two pitches later, Frost sent a 396-foot moon shot over the wall in right-center field for his first homer of the year, putting Mizzou up 9-6.
In the ninth, the Flames were able to score a run on a few walks and a hit batter, making it a 9-7 game. The freshman Rosand entered the game at a crucial time, with one out and the bases loaded, but managed to get the final two outs, punching out the final batter to earn the save for the first of his collegiate career.
NOTEBOOK
- Maisonet led the Mizzou offense, going 2-for-4 with a single and a clutch, go-ahead two-run homer in the seventh. It was the junior's third multi-hit game of the year and his second home run in the Black & Gold.

- His two hits tonight mark his eighth multi-hit game this season, and he has now reached base safely in 14-consecutive games dating back to last season, while also extending his hit streak to 12 games.
- Woita extended his own hitting streak to nine games with a 1-for-3 day at the plate, including an RBI and a run.

- JD Dohrmann had another solid outing, throwing 4.2 innings and giving up four runs on four hits with four punchouts.
- Eli Skidmore threw 2.1 innings out of the bullpen, allowing two earned runs (three total) on three hits while striking out five UIC batters. Skidmore's performance was the longest of his career as he earned his first victory.
- Luke Sullivan logged a scoreless frame, making it 9.0 innings of shutout work for the freshman on the season. Sullivan has allowed just five hits while fanning nine batters with zero walks.
- Rosand entered the game in the ninth with one out and the bases loaded. He managed to allow just one run to score on a sacrifice fly and followed up with a punchout to earn his first collegiate save.
