FORT MYERS, Fla. – Mizzou baseball earned a 12-2, seven-inning run-rule victory over New Haven on Friday night at Terry Park in the opening game of a three-game series with the Chargers.
Lefty Javyn Pimental had a strong outing in his second start of the season for the Tigers, tossing five full innings and allowing just one run on three hits, racking up a career-high 10 strikeouts.
The MU offense got on the board early with an RBI groundout from Cameron Benson in the first inning that brought Jase Woita in to score, giving the Tigers an early 1-0 lead.
In the fourth, the Tigers (3-2, 0-0 SEC) plated five runs, all with two outs in the inning. The first run came in when Benson scored on a sacrifice fly to deep center field off the bat of Eric Maisonet. Keegan Knutson then reached on an error, allowing the inning to continue before Isaiah Frost delivered a clutch two-out, two-run triple to deep right-center field. Tyler Macon followed that up with an RBI double that scored Frost before the final blow of the inning, an RBI single through the right side by Jase Woita to bring Macon home and give the Tigers a 6-1 lead through four innings.
Maisonet added another run for the Tigers in the bottom of the fifth with a two-out RBI single that drove in Chris Patterson. A Pierre Seals RBI double in the sixth inning followed by an RBI single by Benson extended the lead to 9-2.
With a run-rule victory in sight, Mizzou added three runs in the seventh to end the game after seven innings. Maisonet led the inning off with a walk before Macon drove him in a few at-bats later. Seals then delivered a two-run single through the left side of the infield to end the game by run rule, 12-2.
