SCOUTING THE CHARGERS
- New Haven is coming off a 24-20 season in 2025 and a fifth-place finish in the Northeast-10 Conference. Following their 2025 season, the Chargers made the jump from Division II to Division I ball, joining the Northeast Conference (NEC).
- New Haven's series with the Tigers this weekend will be their first three DI games in program history after not playing during opening weekend.
- Catcher Casey Cerruto, returns for his senior season with the Chargers, coming off a season where he posted a .328 batting average with five home runs. Cerruto was named the team MVP and earned Second Team All-Conference honors.
- Although he is not scheduled to start this weekend, it is likely Jr. RHP Michael Gatti will make his presence known at some point this series. Coming off an impressive sophomore campaign in 2025, Gatti posted a 3.42 ERA with 67 strikeouts through 50.0 innings, earning him First Team All-Conference honors.
- An important piece to the Chargers' lineup is junior INF Joe Frazzetta. In 2025, Frazzetta led the team with 46 hits, including 14 doubles and a .286 batting average.
ON THE BUMP
- Graduate LHP Javyn Pimental returns for the 2026 season, back from Tommy John surgery that kept him in the dugout the entire 2025 campaign. He earned the Opening Day start against Mount St. Mary's last Friday and was sharp, going five innings and allowing just one earned run.
- Pimental is a key returning piece for the Mizzou pitching staff, leading the Tigers with a 3.61 ERA and 46 strikeouts over 42.1 innings of work in 2024.
- Junior RHP Josh McDevitt made his first start of the season last Saturday and looked good. He went five innings and allowed no runs on just one hit, striking out six to earn his first career win. He will take the mound for game two of the weekend set on Saturday afternoon.
- Sophomore LHP, Brady Kehlenbrink will also make his second appearance of the season, following a quality start last Sunday, backed by a 34-run performance from his offense. Kehlenbrink went five innings, allowing three runs on three hits, striking out six and recording the win.
HISTORIC OFFENSIVE OUTPUT
- Mizzou baseball used a record-setting performance from its offense in Sunday's series finale to earn a dominant 34-3 victory over Mount St. Mary's on Feb. 15.
- Missouri's 34 runs were its second most in a single game in program history and the most since a 35-run outing in 1902.
- As a team, the Tigers had a program-best 32 RBI, passing the previous record of 28 against Texas on April 19, 2008.
- In addition, the Tigers' 26 hits matched a program record that had been done just twice (2005 vs. Navy; 2008 vs. Texas).
- Lead-off hitter Tyler Macon went 6-for-6 (eight RBI) to become the third Tiger in program history with a six-hit performance while Jase Woita, batting second, went 4-for-7 with a home run and eight RBI. The top two spots in the Tigers' lineup combined to go 10-for-13 with 16 RBI and seven runs scored, while both Macon and Woita came up one RBI short of tying the school record (nine).
- Left fielder Isaiah Frost was overshadowed while still having a huge day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and five RBI.
- Four Tigers scored four runs apiece: Macon, Chris Patterson, Jamal George and Gehrig Goldbeck.
- Overall, 11 Tigers recorded hits while 13 players scored a run.
MACON US GO
- Redshirt-sophomore lead-off hitter Tyler Macon has been a bright spot for the Tiger offense to start the season.
- Through the first week, Macon is batting .500 with a pair of doubles, nine RBI and seven runs scored, getting on base at a .571 clip.
- In Sunday's record-breaking win over Mount St. Mary's, Macon became the first Tiger in program history to go 8-for-8 on base – going 6-for-6 at the plate with a pair of doubles, eight RBI and four runs scored, also reaching twice via walk.
- In addition, Macon became just the third Tiger ever to record six hits in a game and the first since Jeff Terrell in 1995 (6-for-6, cycle, vs. Iowa State). The other was Jay Hawkins in 1956 in a 27-4 win over Nebraska (6-for-7, school-record six runs scored, three stolen bases, four RBI).
STARTING-PITCHING CONSISTENCY
- In each of the season's first four games, Mizzou's starting pitcher has gone 5.0 innings.
- Starting pitchers Javyn Pimental, Josh McDevitt, Brady Kehlenbrink and JD Dohrmann have combined for 20.0 innings while allowing just five earned runs for a combined 2.25 ERA.
- Over those 20.0 innings, the starters have combined for 19 strikeouts, 13 hits and just seven walks.
- Opponents are batting .194 against Mizzou starting pitching.
NEW PIECES TO THE PUZZLE
- Head coach Kerrick Jackson went out and added some key pieces to the puzzle in the portal this offseason, highlighted by junior INF Kam Durnin and graduate 1B/OF Jase Woita.
- Woita joins the Tigers after spending one season at South Carolina where he appeared in 45 games for the Gamecocks posting a .300 batting average with six home runs. In league play, Woita was on fire at the plate all season with a .333 batting average.
- The physical, left-handed slugger is off to a hot start with the Tigers, batting .389 with an OPS of 1.198 thanks to a pair of home runs through the season's first four games. He's driven in a team-leading 10 runs, including a career-high eight RBI in the record-breaking 34-3 win over Mount Saint Mary's on Feb. 15.
- A Missouri native and transfer from Wichita State, Durnin emerged as one of the American Conference's most exciting young players over his first two collegiate seasons, where he hit .258 with 30 doubles and 68 runs scored over two full seasons with the Shockers.
- Durnin had a breakout summer where he was named Appalachian League Player of the Year after matching the Appy League record for highest single season batting average (.407) and setting a new RBI record (56) in just 40 games.
STRENGTH IN EXPERIENCE
- Mizzou returns six starters from the 2025 season: junior catcher Mateo Serna, junior outfielder Kaden Peer, senior infielder Peyton Basler, graduate student Pierre Seals, senior infielder Gehrig Goldbeck and senior infielder Keegan Knutson.
- Serna started in 47 games for the Tigers with a .237 batting average, nine home runs and 36 RBI. He is expected to play a big role yet again, both behind the plate and in the batter's box.
- Seals projects to be an everyday guy in the outfield yet again for the Tigers, coming off a strong 2025 season where he posted a .291 batting average with 22 RBI and five home runs in 45 games. In SEC play, Seals posted a .300 batting average and .370 OBP.
- Peer had a breakout sophomore season, posting a .299 batting average with 34 runs scored and 13 stolen bases while making a big impact defensively in center field.
- Basler brings a veteran presence to the locker room, coming off a 2025 campaign where he batted .228 with 24 runs scored and 15 RBI.
- Goldbeck started 35 games for Mizzou last season, mainly serving as the designated hitter throughout the season due to an injury to his throwing arm, batting .248 to go along with seven stolen bases and 19 walks, ranking second on the team in that category.
- Knutson proved to be a big addition for the Mizzou offense in 2025, posting a .253 batting average and a team-leading eight doubles and will look to make an impact again this season.
