No. 17 Mizzou wrestling hosts its final dual of the season inside Hearnes Center, Thursday, Feb. 12, against No. 16 Oklahoma. The Senior Day ceremony will begin at 6:10 p.m. CT, with wrestling following at 6:30 p.m. CT. Fans can stream all the action on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT
- Missouri claimed a 26-13 road win over No. 16 West Virginia on Feb. 6.
- The Tigers claimed victory in six out of 10 matches, including a five-match win streak to close out the dual (165-285).
- Cam Steed, Aeoden Sinclair and Evan Bates all picked up ranked wins, highlighted by a pin from Steed at 174 pounds against No. 13 Brody Conley.
- True freshman Seth Mendoza picked up a technical fall at 149 pounds versus TJ Langley, 18-3 (5:27).
FULL STEED AHEAD
- Redshirt junior Cam Steed earned Big 12 Wrestler of the Week Honors from the league office on Feb. 10.
- Steed bested No. 13 Brody Conley by fall in 23 seconds to help Mizzou defeat No. 16 West Virginia, Feb. 6.
- The NCAA All-American's pin was his 10th victory of the season and seventh pin of his career in under a minute, with his fastest coming this season against Gunner Holland of Little Rock at the National Duals.
- Despite a tough 9-5 start to the season, Steed is ranked ninth at 174 pounds by the NCAA Coaches Poll, with six of his wins coming with bonus points.
PACING THE PACK
- Redshirt freshman Aeoden Sinclair leads the team with 24 wins, followed closely by redshirt senior Evan Bates with 21. Redshirt sophomore Jarrett Stoner joined the duo after earning his 20th win of the season against Brock Kehler of West Virginia.
- Sinclair tops the team with 17 bonus-point wins and seven pins, and leads the team with 89 takedowns this season, followed by redshirt senior Evan Bates (60).
COACHES CALL
- The first NCAA Individual Coaches' Poll was released with all 10 Missouri starters ranked in the top 33 of their weight class.
- Mizzou is one of six schools to have all 10 ranked in the first coaches' poll and has three listed in the top 10.
- Aeoden Sinclair (184) is the highest-ranked Tiger at No. 3, while both Cam Steed (174) and Evan Bates (197) are No. 9.
- The full list of rankings can be found on page 11, with updated individual coaches' rankings scheduled to be released on Feb. 12.
MENDOZA MOMENTUM
- True freshman Seth Mendoza continues to impress, earning his eighth technical fall of the season against West Virginia's TJ Langley at 149 pounds.
- Additionally, the Mokena, Illinois native, previously advanced to the final of the Soldier Salute, defeating No. 30 Gabe Willochell of Wyoming on his way.
- Mendoza has one date left while remaining in redshirt and holds a 14-5 record with three ranked wins.
SIGNED, SEALED, SINCLAIR
- Redshirt freshman Aeoden Sinclair secured his 18th straight win with a decision over No. 20 Ian Bush, 2-1.
- The third-ranked 184-pounder leads the team with 24 wins to just one loss, and has an 89-2 takedown ratio this season to average 3.6 takedowns per match.
- Moreover, the redshirt freshman's 89 takedowns lead all NCAA wrestlers this season per TrackWrestling.
BEST IN THE BUSINESS
- Head coach Brian Smith recorded his 350th career dual win with a 42-0 victory over Northern Colorado, Jan. 25.
- Coach Smith now has 352 wins, which currently ranks second among active NCAA Division I coaches behind North Carolina's Rob Knoll with 356. Ohio State's Tom Ryan is chasing coach Smith with 350 wins as well.
- Moreover, Coach Smith ranks atop the Big 12 coaches, with the closest competition being Tim Flynn at West Virginia (283) and Kevin Dresser at Iowa State (262).
NO DEBATE(S)
- Redshirt senior transfer Evan Bates has continued to rise since putting on the Black and Gold singlet, picking up a ranked win over No. 14 Rune Lawrence of West Virginia, 7-4, on Feb. 6.
- Bates ranks ninth at 197 pounds and is second on the team in wins (21) and bonus point wins (13).
- Moreover, the Chesterton, Indiana native, has well surpassed his takedown average from a season ago at Northwestern. Bates is averaging 2.3 takedowns per match (60 takedowns in 26 matches), compared to 1.21 (39 takedowns in 32 matches) from a season ago.
LAST TIME VS. OKLAHOMA
- Mizzou dropped a road match at Oklahoma, 23-13, on Feb. 1, 2025.
- The Tigers claimed four matches in the dual: J Conway (157), Cam Steed (165), Jesse Cassatt (197) and Seth Nitzel (285).
- Steed and Nitzel earned ranked wins, taking out No. 27 Tate Picklo (13-3) and No. 27 Juan Mora (8-1), respectively.
THE SERIES: TIGERS - SOONERS
- The match marks the 61st meeting between Missouri and Oklahoma in wrestling, with the Tigers trailing in the series, 16-44.
- The Black and Gold have claimed three of the last four matches, and eight of the last ten.
- Additionally, head coach Brian Smith is 14-10 against OU since taking the head job in 1998, and 8-1 versus Roger Kish-coached teams.
THE STANDARD
- Mizzou clinched its 22nd season totaling 10-or-more wins under head coach Brian Smith with the 33-9 victory over Little Rock, Jan. 31.
- Additionally, with an 11-7 record and two duals left on the schedule, the Tigers secure a winning record for the year. Coach Smith has only had three losing seasons in 28 years at Mizzou.
