COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou softball (21-20, 5-7 SEC) won the pitchers' battle against No. 22/20 LSU (26-14, 6-9 SEC) 1-0 on Saturday, April 4, at Mizzou Softball Stadium.
Senior starting pitcher Cierra Harrison pitched a complete game shutout, as she allowed zero runs with three strikeouts, as she propelled the Tigers past LSU in the series finale. Junior Abby Hay was responsible for the lone score of the game, as a single scored a runner in the third.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Through two innings, both teams were scoreless before Hay recorded an RBI single - her second RBI in the series - to put the Tigers up 1-0 in the bottom of the third.
Mizzou's defense was stellar behind the senior pitcher, as it recorded two double plays during the game. In the top of the fifth, LSU got a runner on first, and an unsuccessful bunt from LSU turned into the first one as freshman Addy Waits caught the pop-up and threw out the runner on first.
In the sixth, Harrison had to show off her defensive skills, as she caught two liners to get them out of the top half of the inning.
In the seventh, the Tigers closed out the victory as sophomore Madison Uptegrove caught a line drive before doubling off the runner at first. Uptegrove would also make the final out, as MIzzou avoided the sweep and earned a top-25 victory over LSU.
