Yang’s Early Goal Gives Mizzou Soccer a 1-0 Win Over Kansas City

The Tigers remain undefeated all-time against the Roos.

Mizzou soccer used an early goal from Mia Yang (Leawood, Kansas) to take a 1-0 win over Kansas City on Sunday night at Audrey J. Walton Stadium in Columbia.

In the third minute, an Emily Derucki (Wildwood, Mo.) corner kick made its way to the middle of the penalty box, where Yang, a junior, punched it into the top center of the net. Yang finished with three shots on goal for the Tigers (3-3-1).

Kate Phillips' (Fishers, Ind.) save in the 24th minute marked the only on-target shot for the Roos (4-4-0) in the match. The junior recorded her third clean sheet of the season and fifth of her career.

Missouri's offense continued its strong play with back-to-back shots on goals from Keegan Good (Parkville, Mo.) and junior Brianna Buels (Indianapolis, Ind.) to open the second half.

Consecutive shots on goals from Yang and Morgan Meador (Ballwin, Mo.) at the 84th minute mark pushed the Tigers' second-half shot total to 12, with Yang, Good and Buels contributing four shots each. This marked the most attempts Missouri has recorded in a half since the Black and Gold also recorded 12 attempts in the second half versus SEMO on September 9, 2024.

Missouri finished with 12 corner kicks and held the Roos to zero, tying for the second largest corner kick differential since the Tigers finished its contest against Mississippi State with a 16-4 margin on September 25, 2016.
